On February 10, 2025, history was made in Zimbabwe as Maxwell Sangulani Chikumbutso unveiled his groundbreaking innovations at the Saith product launch. This was not just a showcase of technology; it was a testament to the power of African ingenuity, resilience, and faith. Chikumbutso’s story is one of defiance against the odds, a journey that began in the rural heart of Zimbabwe and has now positioned him as a global pioneer in renewable energy and sustainable technology.

1. The Early Years: A Fighter from Birth

Maxwell Chikumbutso’s journey began in the most unlikely of circumstances. Born on a farm in rural Zimbabwe, his life was almost cut short when complications during birth led to his being declared stillborn. But his mother refused to give up, and after being beaten and left for dead, he miraculously cried out, proving his will to survive. This fighting spirit has defined his life.

Growing up in a single-parent household, Chikumbutso faced financial hardships that forced him to drop out of school at Form 2. Yet, even as a teenager, his creativity shone through. He was known in his community for his knack for making things work, often scavenging dump sites for parts to experiment with. His curiosity and determination laid the foundation for his future as an inventor.

2. A Divine Calling: The Birth of an Inventor

At 17, Chikumbutso’s life took a transformative turn. During a prayer session at church, he heard a voice saying, “Thus says the Lord, I am going to use you.” This moment marked the beginning of his journey as an inventor. A scripture was given to him in that encounter:

" Thus says the LORD, the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel, to Him who was despised and abhorred by the nation, to the Servant of rulers: “Kings will see You and rise, and princes will bow down, because of the LORD, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen You. "

ISAIAH 49:7

Guided by faith, he began to see visions and receive divine inspiration, which he credits for his scientific breakthroughs.

In 1997, at just 17 years old, he built his first working prototype: a radio broadcasting transmitter. Despite operating illegally, his invention gained national attention, showcasing his potential. However, without funding or support, his early projects were stifled. Yet, Chikumbutso remained undeterred, driven by a vision to solve Africa’s most pressing challenges.

3. The Vision: Harnessing Energy from Radio Frequencies

One of Chikumbutso’s most revolutionary ideas came to him in a vision while visiting a rural community. He saw people dying due to a lack of refrigeration for life-saving medicines. This inspired him to develop a technology that could harness natural radio waves and convert them into usable energy.

This vision led to the creation of the microsonic energy device in 2003, a groundbreaking invention that captures radio frequencies and converts them into electricity. Unlike traditional energy sources, this device requires no external power input, making it a truly sustainable solution.

4. Trials and Triumphs: The Road to Success

Chikumbutso’s journey was far from easy. He faced countless challenges, from homelessness in South Africa to skepticism from scientists and engineers. In 2009, he was robbed and left destitute, sleeping on a golf course with no food or shelter. Yet, even in his darkest moments, his faith and determination never wavered.

A turning point came when he met Dr. Ted De Almeida, an Angolan businessman who believed in his vision. With De Almeida’s support, Chikumbutso was able to develop and test his prototypes, including the first self-powering electric vehicle (SPEV) and the green power off grid machine. These inventions have since been tried, tested and validated,  by the likes of Foster Gamble proving their potential to revolutionize energy and transportation.

5. The Saith Launch: A New Era of African Innovation

At the Saith product launch, Chikumbutso unveiled his latest innovations, including the microsonic energy device, self-powering electric vehicles, and energy-efficient appliances. These technologies are not just inventions; they are solutions designed to empower communities, particularly in rural Africa.

The microsonic energy device, for instance, can power homes, businesses, and even vehicles without relying on traditional energy grids. Chikumbutso demonstrated how the device recharges itself using ambient radio waves, a feat that has been met with both awe and skepticism. Yet, the proof lies in the results: a machine that can provide free, sustainable energy for up to 20 years.

6. A Legacy of Empowerment

Chikumbutso’s work is about more than technology; it’s about transforming lives. His inventions are designed to make energy accessible and affordable, particularly for underserved communities. By eliminating the need for expensive batteries and external charging systems, his solutions have the potential to end energy poverty in Africa and beyond.

His self-powering electric vehicles, for example, can drive indefinitely without refueling or recharging. These vehicles can also serve as mobile power stations, providing electricity to homes and businesses in remote areas.

7. The Future: A Vision for Africa and the World

Chikumbutso’s journey is far from over. With plans to commercialize his inventions, he aims to make his technologies accessible to millions. His focus is on Africa, but his vision is global. By partnering with international companies and governments, he hopes to bring his solutions to the world stage.

Despite the challenges and criticisms, Chikumbutso remains steadfast in his mission. His story is a powerful reminder that innovation knows no boundaries and that Africa has the talent and potential to lead the world in sustainable technology.

A Beacon of Hope

Maxwell Sangulani Chikumbutso is more than an inventor; he is a symbol of hope and resilience. His journey from a rural farm in Zimbabwe to the global stage is a testament to the power of faith, determination, and African ingenuity.
